Excellent hotel. Wonderful spg suite upgrade. Not much negative to report – the only let down was the spg platinum breakfast benefit, which consisted of three items + coffee you had to pick in the bar area. Very high school cafeteria-style, and not the luxury and quiet breakfast one could hope for.
All in all a great hotel. Would have given them top rating without the two issues we had. They were out of towels in the fitting room, and no one seemed to oversee it regularly. Plus, the pool area was not cleaned for garbage the two days we were there. No towel refills here either, and people were smoking and drinking beer cans in the pool. Just nasty. Please pay more attention to the fitness room and pool area!
This hotel really stood out. Loved that they used an old building, which opened for different rooms and lay out – including some suites. We got a nice upgrade, and had a great time. The AC was new and quiet, which is quite rare these days.
Only issue we had was a major party going on in a room across the hallway. People were coming and going all night, going OUT in the hallway to make phone calls. The hotel must have known about this and should ban huge parties being held in rooms. After all, some of us are there to rest and a have good night sleep.
There was a fence at the parking area making it inconvenient to go from the hotel to downtown. Not sure what the purpose of that fence is?
Oh - and please get rid of those horrible cheap and lumpy pillows.
Besides a good spg platinum upgrade and a decent location (if you can sleep through the train whistles) this hotel disappointed us. Called housekeeping in the evening asking for an extra pillow for the bed. Answer: They were out of regular bed pillows. Really? At a hotel? It was raining the day we visited, and we asked about an umbrella. No chance. Finally, at check out, we asked for the folio to be emailed. Still have not seen it.
The room is old, with stains here and there, and needs a total makeover. The double-elevator-situation is tiring.
Be aware that some of the top floor rooms and suites have a lot of noise from the hallway, as it is the only way leading to the roof top pool.
Oh - staff at breakfast and front desk was friendly.
We stayed here for one night during a road trip and had a great experience.
Got a splendid platinum upgrade, check-in was friendly and room big and comfy. For the price we paid (point stay), this was real good value.
Big kudos to management for a very flexible breakfast amenity for spg platinums ("pick whatever you want from the menu, honey"). Breakfast staff terrific and really stood out.
Adequate fitness center. Free parking. A bit out of the way, but no hassle getting to Nashville or Franklin if you have a car.
Any room for improvement?
AC sounded like a jet engine, maybe the hotel could invest in something more quiet down the road?
The dispensers with soap, shower gel and conditioner are just tacky.
And something really minor (and only for the light sleeper): The fire alarm had a annoying light. Every fifth second it was lightning in the room. We covered it with a sweater.
Good platinum suite upgrade, but the murphy bed in the parlor suite was rather uncomfortable. Huge gap between door and floor, and we were awaken at 530 am due to door slamming from the hallway. Room were old, especially the bathroom needs an update. Spent 30 minutes on the phone with a hotel technician trying to get the internet in the room to work. Self-parking was full when we arrived at 2 pm, so we were forced to use the expensive valet. No hotel restaurant to eat breakfast, the only choice seemed to be the hectic and spartan cafeteria on the ground floor. Friendly check-in and good location, but I will check for other options the next time I am in the area.
We were given a nice (but rather oddly shaped) suite upgrade as platinum members, but that was about the only positive thing about our stay.
First: Please please fix the gap between the door and floor. The noise from the hallway was unbearable, especially when this hotel (as many other) has no soft lock mechanism on the doors. This was truly door-slamming-noise on a level I seldom experience.
Further, the rooms are old and worn, and the plumbing in the bathroom loud and very grandma-style.
We called housekeeping to get an extra comforter for the bed. Answer? No, we can only offer you a small blanket. Say what?
Breakfast area was hectic and the buffet very limited. No selections of cereals, looking for some cheerios or all bran, I could in fact not find any cereals at all.
Nice and relatively new hotel, with large rooms and several suites. Not much to complain about. However be aware that traffic noise can be an issue due to the proximity to several highway. In addition we found the club lounge rather sad and dull. They did not even serve breakfast there, we were given coupons to the main restaurant.(where we had a decent breakfast.) And lastly, the water pressure in the shower was REALLY weak.
Yes, I recommend this hotel.

We thought that this was a wonderful resort in a rather seedy area of Thailand. (Instead of using time in Pattaya, we rented a car and took a day trip to Koh Samet. Highly recommended.)
We loved the pool area, plus sitting in the Infinity bar looking out at the ocean during sunset.
We were granted late check-out, something we were very grateful for (had a late over night flight back to Europe).
Some minor negatives: - Not to impressed by the breakfast spread. Not enough healthy choices, like low fat yogurt, multigrain bread etc. The orange juice was of poor standard, and it was also kind of gross when there suddenly were birds inside the breakfast room and buffet area. - Please add some healthy choices to the Infinity restaurant/bar as well. - Overall, the food in Latest Recipe was great (not sure why this restaurant was deserted both nights we were there - maybe too expensive?). However, the beef in various dishes was like gum. Stick to chicken or fish. - The ground floor garden pavillion rooms seemed to have very limited privacy. I am not sure if those are the standard platinum upgrade room (luckily, we had a first/top floor pavillion room with a little bit of ocean view), but I would rather choose a high floor standard room in one of the main buildings than that. Ground floor may be great for kids and pool access, but not very quiet and secluded. Just be aware at check in. - We were very careful when shutting and closing the doors, but somehow a gecko still managed to get into our room. We suspect it was during turn down service. I know they are harmless, but to a European they are still kind of spooky, especially the large ones. Make sure to open/close really fast at night, they move very quickly. - the fan out on the pavillion did not really provide any air movement -it was too slow.
This is a great property in a lovely and secluded location, close to the Golden Triangle. We thought that the area was much more interesting than the rather touristy Chiang Mai.
Fantastic food in Favola.
Good platinum recognition, was upgraded to a Grand Deluxe room. Though not a suite, it was a big and comfy room.
Nice breakfast spread in Latest Recipe.
Room for improvement: - The sound insulation in the room is not great. It was a bar nearby (not at the property), and music was easily heard late at night through the glass balcony door. I would also recommend the top floor, as noise from above (moving furniture, people coming and going) could be a problem.
- I suggest that wedding ceremonies held right by the pool for several hours are either announced at the web page to the hotel or by email to the customer in adequate time beforehand. A note in the room the same day is not good enough. It certainly put a damper on the pool use for us (lasting from 1530 to 1800++).
Stayed here over New Years. This was our forth visit to the hotel. All in all an average experience.
Usually the rooms here are quiet, but this time the family above us was so noisy I almost had to ask for a room change (but we had a nice suite + they seemed fully booked). Most of the noise comes from chairs and other furniture being moved around on the tiled floor in the rooms and/or on the balcony. They should really consider carpets here. After listening to chair scratching for a while, it just gets maddening.
We had the spg platinum breakfast, and like on our last visit, the waiter decided to automatically add a 20% service charge on the bill + plus leave a tip space open. It made us really uncomfortable. Please let your guests decide what amount they want to tip. This policy will not work in your favor in the long run, it will only create irritation. (Besides, this hotel already has enough of those annoying add-ons. You want pancakes for breakfast? Great. You want blueberries in your pancakes? That’s an extra dollar. And don’t get me started on the resort fee.)
The hotel is pet-friendly, and there are a lot of dogs there. I like dogs, but not on holiday. I have learned my lesson, and asked for a room that did not have dogs as neighbors (barking) or had recently been in it (smell). However, if you want to have your breakfast outside in the restaurant, you just have to tolerate the dogs. In my opinion, they should have one of the sides out sides dog-free.
The hotel is still a fine one, with mostly greatly service (love Anna Marie at front desk) and a reasonably good hard product. But the location is isolated, and without a beach nearby, I need it to be perfect to make it worth a visit. This time it was not, and we will probably not be back for a while.
Thank you for taking the time to comment upon my review. It would however be nice if you would comment on the issues raised in the review (noise from furniture above due to no carpet, and the auto-tipping in restaurant) and not on something that I did not bring up at all (the resort fee).
